Frequently Asked Questions

What does Family of Christ Lutheran Church teach and believe?

Family of Christ Lutheran Church is a Christian congregation of over 2,000 partners in mission that seeks to follow the Lord Jesus in all that we do. As a result, we are "The place where forgiveness works." In other words, we are a church where forgiveness is given, taught, treasured, and shared. Our teaching centers on the forgiveness offered to all people in Jesus' name, won for us by His death on the cross. We teach what the Bible teaches--that we are saved by grace through faith. We believe in a Triune God as revealed in the Bible, which is the inerrant Word of God, and taught in the Apostles' Creed. We interpret the Bible through the Lutheran Confessions.

How do I become a partner in mission at Family of Christ Lutheran Church?

Family of Christ Lutheran Church welcomes partners in mission into our family of faith. Those who have been confirmed in a Lutheran congregation are invited to attend the New Disciples Orientation. If you are new to the Lutheran Church, your class has two parts. Part one is called Christian Beliefs. Part two is called New Disciples Orientation. We offer Saturday classes. Please call the church office for more information. (763-434-7337)

How do I arrange for a Baptism?

In the case of children under six years old, please call the Church office for the time of our pre-baptism class. This is a two-hour session. In the case of adults, attendance at the Christian Beliefs Class can lead to baptism when the individual so desires.

How do I arrange for a wedding?

The privilege of being married at Family of Christ is reserved for those who publicly practice their Christian faith. That is most clearly seen in regular worship attendance. For weddings, please call the church office to speak to a pastor.

How do I arrange for my child's Confirmation?

At Family of Christ, children going into sixth grade begin a course of instruction called CrossTraining. In these classes, spread over three years, we teach the basics of the Christian faith. These include the Ten Commandments, the Apostles' Creed, the Lord's Prayer, the Sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper and the "Office of the Keys" - or forgiveness. In addition, students grow in their faith relationship with God and their relationships with others: parents, teachers, pastors and friends. After being instructed in the Lord's Supper, students may choose to receive this sacrament prior to their confirmation. The confirmation experience ends with the Rite of Confirmation. At that time students become communicant members of the Lutheran Church. Please contact DCE Peter Hiller for more information.

The ABC's of the Good News of Jesus Christ

As someone considering the Christian faith, you must deal with two important questions:

1.  Do you know for certain that you have eternal life and will go to heaven if you were to die today?

2.  If you died and stood before God and He were to ask you, "Why should I let you into heaven?" what would you say?

How you answer those two questions is not inconsequential. They show where you are spiritually within the Christian faith. Are there wrong answers? You bet! Lots of them. Two answers bring the Christian faith into focus. To the first question, Christians will answer "Yes, for sure, absolutely." Many people will say that. But a second answer is required. Christians respond to the second questions with these words: "Because Jesus died for my sins." If those two aren't your answers, perhaps you need to consider the following "ABC's" of the Christian faith.

Admit your failure to follow God and His will perfectly.

Romans 3:23  For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

James 2:10  Whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

Galatians 3:10  Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law. Romans 6:23  For the wages of sin is death.

Believe what God has done for you in Jesus Christ.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

1 Timothy 1:15  Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4  For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.

Galatians 3:13  Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.

1 Peter 3:18  For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.

Titus 3:5  He saved us, not because of righteous things we have done, but because of His mercy.

Romans 6:23  The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Acts 16:31  Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.

Do you believe that Jesus Christ lived a perfect life, died on the cross, and rose from the dead for you? A prayer for this moment might be:

“Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that I am a sinner and do not deserve eternal life. But You died on the cross and rose from the dead to purchase a place in heaven for me. Thank you for giving me faith by the power of Your Holy Spirit, forgiveness of all my sins, and the gift of eternal life. Help me to live for You and to confess You before others. In Your name I pray.  Amen”

So now you have begun. These are the ABC’s of becoming a Christian. There is much more to learn and understand about your Lord, your faith, and His Church. If you have any questions, please contact the Church office and we will be happy to respond to your questions and needs.

Go in peace and serve the Lord!
